The defeat of German forces after six years of war; arguably the greatest British military achievement of modern times. Lüneburg Heath - the surrender of over one million German men at arms to Field Marshal Montgomery.
A Human Story
In retirement Montgomery is frustrated at the absence of only a few black and white photographs to record such a momentus occaision. With Monty's support a painting is commissioned by the renowned painter Terence Cuneo.

Public display future
Then, the painting disappears into private collection for 56 years, away from public sight. Until... April 2025, it is sold at auction, just three weeks before VE Day 80.
Now, the painting is intended to go on permanent public display; to inspire the current generation by visual testament of one of the greatest achievments of the British people.
